Shoes

Which are the correct shoes
As a general guideline, choose those shoes with yellow shoe sole (Gum rubber sole) and lower sole to ensure a good grip, especially for lateral and backward movement.

The yellow sole is called the gum rubber sole.

Running shoe is definitely a No-NO as it's normally too high and may cause injury to your leg, as badminton is a game that needs a lots of movement in multiple direction within a short period of time..

Few recommended brands are :

  1. Yonex
  2. New Balance
  3. Power (Bata)
Price around MYR60 [ Power ] to MYR600[Yonex].

Shuttlecocks

Which shuttkecock is recommended?
Fans normally look for durable, consistent, and value for money, below are some references:

  1. Yonex A40
  2. Around YR85 per canister, quite a good and consistent quality, can stand for 1.5 games if play correctly, but premium price.
  3. Protech Tournament
Around MYR54 per canister, one of the most durable shuttlecock I have tried, can play up to 2
games, problem is some people may consider the speed is quite slow.

3.RCL Titanium
Price around MYR60 per canister, quite a good choice in between item 1 and 2 above in term of price and quality.
4.Sea Lion C1130
Used to be one of the best shuttlecock in 1980s, but the quality deteriorate a lots nowadays.

5.RSL Tourney No.1 and Tourney No.2
Affordable brand, ranging from MYR34 to MYR78.

    Racket

    How to select a racket?

    Yonex Nano Speed 100 Bue
    Brand
The big name in badminton world is off course Yonex brand, besides the competitor like Apacs, Fleet, Carlton and Li-Ning brand is getting more popular now.

Usually when people ask me about racket selection, which racket is best? As a general guideline, I will answer it depends on whether you are playing Single or Doubles, skill level and budget.

    Weight
If you are playing Single, better choose a heavier one, because it allow you to return to the baseline easily, but if you are playing for Doubles, it is advisable to choose a lighter racket. Lighter weight one offer by Fleet and Finnex.

    Durability & Quality
Yonex is still the best, Yonex itself have few version, there are Made in Japan and Made in Taiwan, check the word printer at the lower surface of the racket handle. The one Made in Japan has the consistent and good quality while the one Made in Taiwan is inferior, some said the one form Taiwan is fake products.

    Price
Yonex still averagely a more expensive one, ranging from MYR60 to MY1,xxx. But for beginner, racket below MYR150 and above MYR60 is good enough. For a cheaper and lighter version, you can look for Fleet, Finnex and Hart, the one I'm using is Hart PowerShoot Offensive, which I bought at only MYR37 offer price in year 2010.
